Implementing Industry 4.0 applications typically requires costly investment in new infrastructure and the replacement of existing machinery due to the lack of Industry 4.0 interfaces and insufficiently accessible machine data. More cost-efficient are so-called retrofit solutions, which functionally upgrade existing machines and integrate them into an Industry 4.0 network. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often lack the knowledge and experience to address the topic of retrofitting in their own companies.

Fraunhofer IOSB-INA therefore develops retrofitting solutions based on intelligent sensor systems, cloud connections and machine learning methods for data analysis. Without high investments, these solutions make it possible to simplify processes in the future and gain more transparency, control, planning, security and flexibility in your own production.

With the production data acquisition system INAsense, Fraunhofer IOSB-INA has developed a tool that enables companies (especially SMEs) to quantitatively record and evaluate the retrofit potential in the company with little effort. It is an industry-independent, scalable complete solution for the use cases efficiency increase, error detection, retrofitting and training. From acquisition to pre-processing and analysis of process and environmental data, the system offers a self-sufficient, compact and versatile infrastructure. The system includes industry-compatible components and a dedicated cloud connection with OPC UA.
